Ministry of Food Leaflet No. 19 Making the Fat Ration Go Further

Good morning! I’m keeping it brief as I am getting ready for work and just squeezing this in before I have my first coffee of the day and some breakfast!

It’s my last day at work too and have a long Christmas holiday now which of course has got filled with practical appointments I haven’t been able to fit in yet such as my next Covid booster, Flu jab and my cars MOT! I’m planning on spending time giving my house a clean and tidy starting tomorrow, wrapping those final presents and will visit my parents again before Christmas too.

Hope you have a great day!

Ministry of Food Leaflet No. 16 Pickles and Chutney

It’s nearly Christmas! I am so behind with everything and all my Christmas cards will finally be in the post box tomorrow morning at 8:30 am to make the 9 am pick-up. I haven’t made a Christmas cake either. I’d be the only one eating it anyway so despite all my grand plans in November, none have come to fruition as I am exhausted physically and mentally and literally cannot wait to start my long Christmas break on the 22nd!

The one room I have, that is tidy and cosy and ready for Christmas is the sitting room, the rest I will work on during the evenings this week. I like to give the house a tidy and clean through before Christmas as it gives me a sense of peace!

PS: I shall enjoy using my wind up gramophone over Christmas and the potted plant I was given Friday night by my friend Kaytie. We used to work together and 4 or 5 months ago we started meeting up once a month or so for a chit chat over some wine which I absolutely love.

Ministry of Food Leaflet No. 13 Puddings

So sorry! I am a little behind so will post two leaflets today. One now, this morning and one this evening too!

We are without heating and hot water currently (24 hrs now) and expect to be for another day or two. It’s all to do with a frozen condensation pipe as our temperatures are currently at -8C (it’s done it before) which has shut down our gas boiler. Understandable given the location of the pipe (15 ft up on an exposed corner of the house). I’ve requested that the pipe gets lagged but not sure how affective that would be given the location. Anyway, as happened last time, as soon as the weather gets above freezing for a few hours, it should thaw. It may be tomorrow but if not we have warm weather for sure on Sunday!

Ministry of Food Leaflet No. 10 Your Children’s Food in Wartime

Good morning! It’s snowing here!!! Finally a little light sprinkling of the white stuff! I like the smell of winter and it is good to see snow again. We are lucky to see a handful of days of snow in a whole year here in the South West of England. I miss the stunning beauty of being cut off from everyone by thick, deep snow during the winters in rural Nova Scotia. Waking up to a foot or two of snow and being completely surrounded by nature was an amazing experience made even more real after I would put on my boots, walk outside and see the animal tracks left by birds, racoons, coyotes, white-tailed deer and bear. I even saw a bob-cat once! It sometimes took us a day or two to get ploughed out so we could reach the main road (which was 1/4 of a mile down our track). I don’t miss driving on the roads during winter though!
