Homity Pie at The Peacock in Bakewell

homepage_image2

They DO serve 1940s food at some places…

Last night Mr Tiddles (Richard) and I drove up into the beautiful Derbyshire countryside to Bakewell (yes where Bakewell tarts originate from and Richard makes the best Bakewell tart on the planet!) for a pub supper.

The Peacock in Bakewell is my most favourite pub to eat at. The chef knows how to cook vegetables, the portions are generous and the food is fresh,  tasty and presented very nicely. We both craved ‘Homity Pie’… served with new potatoes, a panache of vegetables and a mound of rocket.

And Homity Pie has it’s origins in the 1940s during WW2. It is said that ‘Land Girls’ created the dish and took the pies to work with them. Homity Pie is an open small deepish pie with a pastry bottom and sides, filled with seasoned/herbed mashed potato plus onions or leeks and a little cheese over the top and very tasty indeed… (The Peacocks version had garlic in it)

I’ll be making one soon for the blog but for the meantime, feast your eyes on these piccys (yes I do take pictures of food wherever I go)

And after our supper we went to Monsal Head and looked down upon the valley as the sun set. It was glorious, breathtaking, beautiful…

NOTHING can beat natures beauty, it’s just even better that now I have someone to share it with.

I work freelance for a social media list making website called Wrappler.com . It was started last year by two girlfriends of mine, Caroline and Bertie and they have lived and breathed their dream of a social media start-up created by women (and trust me this is quite rare) and from a personal level I so want their dream to succeed..

5605010-large

Out of thousands, Wrappler has been selected and is now on the first short-list and these girls want more than anything to get through to the next short-list of 50 and this will happen by PUBLIC VOTE…

Am asking you from the bottom of my heart, for a favour which is to CLICK a LIKE BUTTON for this GIRL POWER team and give them the chance to be one of a handful of people selected to climb ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ with some of the most knowlegeable and powerful tech entrepreneurs in the world. It is a huge opportunity for these ladies…

It’s wonderful what can happen with a little people power and hoping your clicking will make this happen for them.

THANK YOU xxxx

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has….

unnamed
The Marple and District WI displayed this at their last meeting… gulp!

I think I need to start writing down what I am eating so I can keep a track of things better so some days you’ll probably find a menu and/or some photos appear randomly… I think it will help.

Am also beginning to stress about doing my very first talk on my blog in front of an audience in two weeks time because I HAVE to actually stand up in front of people and talk and this is one of my biggest fears in life (Crazy isn’t it! It’s not as if I could lose my life or anything!!). I think part of it is I’m still a big girl, a very big girl with a 100 lbs left to lose but also that I freeze, go red and just want the ground to swallow me up.

BUT I’m gonna do it…. one has to face their demons face on (I’m talking metaphorically here as I know the sixty odd ladies from Marple WI who will be listening are going to be simply lovely and not like demons at all!)

So anyway… (gulp!..)

Here is what I have eaten today..

Breakfast: Sauted spinach/mushrooms/tomatoes on two slices of toast (had some soft tomatoes and going brown mushrooms that needed eating up- I often have kale or spinach on toast for breakfast if I’m not up to porridge) 400 cals ish

Lunch: Kale and other veg stew plus 1 oz of cheese plus two slices of bread 700 cals ish

Dinner/Supper:  Oslo meal (without cheese) and a slice of eggless sponge

How on earth did the blog pass 2 million …

jubilee bunting

Not sure how it passed but last week this little old blog passed the 2 million visits mark… seems strange that, but I think it is testament to the global blogging community as a whole, we all have a genuine interest in each other or certain topics that are useful to us.

Anyway- I just wanted to say thank you for your continuing support (125,000 visits in March!) and will be adding more re-created 1940s recipes regularly as there are several back logged on my camera!

I’ve had a cold this past week and have been unable to go to the gym as its been sitting on my chest and start coughing like crazy on exertion,  BUT have still managed lots of gentle walking. Richard and I have been walking plenty, out in the fresh air and when he isn’t visiting here or I’m not visiting there, I’ve been taking a walk every day. Hoping to get back to the gym as soon as the cold clears.

You may have seen this picture doing the rounds so I wanted to add it to my blog… because I happen to think what this lady did was brave and was right. She refused to let Shape magazine run an article on her weight-loss because they allegedly refused to let her pose in a bikini like most of their other weight-loss stories, probably because of the extra skin she has on her stomach, which is quite normal for someone having lost 172 lbs (amazing job Brooke!)

Here is the article in the Daily Mail  CLICK HERE

And here is Brookes Blog (which by the way keeps crashing right now because of all the visitors to it!)

Lets send her some love!
