I don’t recall that it was fresh salted cod, more like dried salted cod. It came in wooden boxes. My grandmother used in a cream gravy which was served over mashed potatoes or4 toast.

I know, it seems an odd way to describe it as salting is usually what is done before drying for long term preserving (as you described above) I guess salting must have been a way of keeping fish fresher for longer while stored on ice at the fishmongers or something? C xxx
