Armistice Day Sunday 11 November, 100 years today marking the armistice signed between the Allies of WW1 and Germany. Millions of people, military and civilian lost their lives, 700,000 soldiers in the UK alone.
Did my 5k Poppy Run while giving this all much thought and feeling thankful for everything we have and our freedom.
Afterwards attended the Remembrance Sunday service at Maltby Cenotaph where several hundred people had gathered and after the service we all marched behind the band through the streets of Maltby …a lovely memorial. C xxxxxxxx
Commemorations and sombre reflections here also.
Thoughts to you across the miles.
Here in South Africa, we too remembered the loss of so many lives…. We lost more than 600 men when the SS Mendi sank.
We owe so many for so long for so much!

Sorry, I meant to comment about the run. It looks like the Poppy run was a good one, Carolyn – you look so happy!
What a lovely tribute to the local men – and a smashing photo of you! Anna
Carolyn, in the Blackberry Mincemeat recipe, it calls for tsps. of “mixed spice” .. please advise what spices are in this mix.
thanks so much, ann lee in Canada
Here is a typical blend of spices used to make mixed spice:
1 Tbs ground allspice
1 Tbs ground cinnamon
1 Tbs ground nutmeg
2 tsp ground mace
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground Ginger
Blend all spices together, and store in a sealed jar away from light.
Thanks so much Carolyn, both myself and daughter (Texas) are going to try this recipe. blackberries are abundant here in the fall, I have lots in my freezer! ann lee s
