Pandemic Pantry: FREE cookbook launching soon

>>DUE OUT JANUARY 1st, 2022<<

Dear all,

I’ve completed the book cover and am busy doing a simple community cookbook style layout inside inspired by my time in the rural Canadian community from 2004-2013.

Simple, frugal recipes have been coming in from all over the world for this global community project during these challenging times.

THANK YOU for all the recipes sent through.

I am taking recipe submissions (for the 2nd edition) and the book will be updated and re-uploaded every few months with more recipes and messages from around the world.

Please include your name, country, and link to your website/blog/business. Am thrilled with the participation. Thank you!

Stay calm, stay safe, stay home

  1. Thank you Carolyn! So excited…. it’s just what we need! I’m hoping there will be a few vegan recipes or ones we can easily veganise!

  2. Last year I purchased an old cookbook entitled – A Kitchen Goes to War – Famous People contribute 150 recipes to a Ration-Time Cookery Book. Must admit to not having heard of some of the folk but a very interesting selection. It was published in 1940 so I would think is out of copyright. I must agree that Omlet Agatha Christie and Joyce Grenfell’s Coffee Marshmallow Whip sound quite delicious!
As an aside I would like to make my favourite Yoghurt cake but it needs golden syrup. I have none any ideas of a substitute for it?

  3. Hi Carolyn I have a couple of recipes for you. Not sure if these are the type you’re looking for but they are go to recipes in my family.

Easy bolognese sauce (serves four) 500g minced beef One tin of chopped tomatoes One tin of Campbell’s Condensed Tomato Soup Some minced with garlic (as much as you like – we like three cloves) Mix everything together. Place in an oven proof dish, cover with tinfoil and place in the oven (gas mark 150) for two-and-a-half hours. Take out, add salt to taste if you need it. When ready, use for spaghetti bolognese, a filling for a baked potato or for lasagne.

Easy Sponge Cake/fairy cake mix four large eggs 8oz butter (soft), you can also use margarine if you have no butter 8oz self raising flour 8oz caster sugar tspn vanilla essence

Preheat oven to gas mark 160 degrees. Mix everything in a mixer until light and fluffy. Place in buttered cake tins or fairy cake tins abd put into oven for 25-30 minutes depending on your oven.

  4. What a fantastic idea! BTW, the Oslo meal would be a good thing to include, if it’s not already in there. I happened to show it to a friend today. With my child at home every day and not being able to get out as much as we usually do, it’s a good way to keep her full but healthy.

  5. I discovered your page a few years ago. I love the Oatmeal Soup No 99. I’ve certainly been making it a lot recently (I do omit the milk-prefer it without). Thanks so much.

    • Hi there, I’m hoping within the next few days or so…it had to take a back seat to get my garden dug and sorted to plant food …I will let everyone know as soin as version 1 is done and ready to download xxxx
