I removed debris and a large pile of old thorny bushes/branches to clear this area for my poly greenhouse
It’s been a scorcher here today..
Despite the heat I really wanted to clear the area of the large pile of cut thorn bushes and debris so I can put in my small plastic greenhouse when it is delivered on Monday. I’m excited to get my “Victory Garden” up and running and hopefully provide some vegetables over winter. It’s been quite a long time since I grew a veggie garden so I’ve a lot to learn but that’s half the fun of it!
I resurrected two composters that I found in an overgrown area of the garden. I’ve also found lots of pots filled with weeds which I am going to utilize!
So I’ve just come in from 2 hours outside in a sun trap, thoroughly dirty, unattractively sweaty with thorn bush twigs in my hair but I just had to write this and share my enthusiasm before my second shower of the day beckons.

I’m then off down the road, walking to the shops. I’ve decided to try and live my life without a car for as long as possible. It’s a major expense so I’m putting it off… who knows, I may not ever need one!
Tomorrow the Hobbits and I are taking the bus to Woodview Farm which is just a few miles from our house to attend an “Iron Age Roundhouse Open Day”. I’m really looking forward to it! The backyard is making me envious! and cheers for compost-since I got a composter, my trash at the curb has been cut in half!

Looking at the area you cleared and the way the paving stones lie, I wonder if a small greenhouse stood there before. Perhaps a 1940’s victory garden?
Something used to be there.. first there is part of an old wall with plaster on it then I looked on the floor and although some of an old floor has broken up and some slabs put down, it looks like there was possibly the foundation for a building or a larger greenhouse! The house we are renting is really very large and old so I would imagine would have had more land and outbuildings before modern houses were built all around. It would be awesome to think that there possibly was a victory garden there at one time 🙂

Hahaha!! Well in reality there are so many weeds everywhere but I’m pulling a few up everytime I venture out into the garden.. poor things! LOL!
The Roundhouse is great. If you haven’t gone already there is also a Folk Museum in Calverton.

Good work, Carolyn! You’re a force to be reckoned with, for sure. I love clearing and weeding but I wouldn’t have done it in yesterday’s heat. It’s great that you’re trying to put down roots already – much the best way to cope with your transition to this country. You’d better get those compost bins off the concrete to give the worms a chance to get in, although I’m sure you know that already. Have you got any riding stables near you so you get hold of manure to add to the mix. Absolutely essential, in my opinion.
