Day 7 – 1940s Experiment 2013

Today I’ve just nibbled on leftovers… salad, baked potato, veggies, bread and butter..I even had a little dark chocolate too which took up a portion of my monthly sweets allowance.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day and although I’ve eaten a LOT and haven’t exercised/walked as I had intended, am confident the scales will show some loss. We’ll see! Am looking forward to hearing how everyone else has done… it’s been so wonderful reading what everyone has been doing!!

Good luck for tomorrow!!!

  1. Day 7
Well today I was naughty, there I admit it. Of my own free will I ate…and thoroughly enjoyed…a Frys Chocolate Creme bar! I had an absolute craving for one when I was reading a Wartime diary entry which mentioned that there had been some in the shops.
    Breakfast-toast & marmite plus tea
    Lunch-Frys Chocolate Creme.
    Cup of coffee
Dinner-roast beef(I had only one slice)
    Roast potatoes, carrots, spring cabbage
    Yorkshire pudding
    Gravy
Small helping of homemade rice pudding
    Lovely traditional British roastie!
Feel a bit fat though I shall find out tomorrow…X

  2. Day 7 for me, bad but good. It was Sunday so roast with the family, one lamb chop for me! But the yorkshire pudding was great and so was the cake for afters. Made to one of Marguerite Patten’s recipes and as I had enough fat ration left, all good. I used an online conversion table, as I don’t want to use Lard for cooking and found that the Fat ration converts to 127ml of olive oil, so I measured that out and have been using that for cooking.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every day of this so far! And as this morning marks day 8 I stepped on “those scales”. With a big smile I see I’ve lost aprox 2lbs. Quite a shock, though I dare say some of it will be fluid loss from less beer / wine etc….

This week I am making another big change. Seems that the government scheme was to ensure a beer supply of 4 pints per soldier/sailor/airman and 2 pints per factory worker per week. So as I’m an Airman, I’m cutting myself to 4 pints per week. That should help. Though to be truly accurate I’d need to water it down as well I guess.

Day 8 menu is toast for brekkie, left overs for lunch and no idea for dinner. Need to walk to the shops for some supplies, so that is a 7km round trip walk. Just wish I had a wartime shop to visit to help me be restrained.

Really looking forward to seeing how everyone else has done so far.

  3. Just weighed in and I lost a pound, In the right direction but hoped it would have been more. I’ve not been able to walk much this week but I’m more determined to keep on the diet this week, Good luck to every one with their weigh in. Porridge for breakfast, jacket potato at lunch and salad for dinner.

  4. Weighed in this morning and have lost 3lbs – happy with that start. I know it’s going to be a long, slow process so I’m in for the long haul. I will be walking 3 miles per day minimum which will help. One thing I am noticing is that I would normally have gone back for a second helping of yesterday’s supper, but I now think of the next day’s lunches which is better.

    Today’s menu is:

Breakfast: 2 x brown toast and jam
Lunch: Leftovers from last night with coleslaw
Dinner: Veggie goulash and soda bread
