I’ve been watching some videos from the Imperial War Museum about the 1940s House. It takes you on a tour of the house but also provides some fascinating information on life on the homefront. I’ve selected two of the movies which share information on food rationing that I think you’ll find really interesting..
I saw the house at the I W M back when the series was first aired on TV. It was most disconcerting seeing my childhood in a museum! I was born in ’49, but our house was effectively just the same, except that Mum had a gas boiler for the washing.
Have you seen the Wartime Kitchen and Garden series with Ruth Mott and Harry (?) ? You can see the episodes on YouTube……
