Weekly weigh in- August 22, 2012

Bleh- no weight loss. Ok maybe a smidgen but as I don’t have digital scales the amount was not worth recording..

No worries, I’m kinda upset but I’ll get over it. Today would have been a good day to hit that treadmill for my second session on week 4 of “Couch to 5K” but that damn womanly curse greeted me this morning putting an end to any activity planned..

One good thing, yesterday I ran at 6 mph for a minute (for me that’s a sprint), and did 5 minutes at 5 mph as well as walking at a 10 incline for 20 minutes at 3 mph… all the endurance lights came on so even the treadmill knows that’s tough work.

Despite seeing no result on the scales this week I feel physically strong and my clothes are beginning to hang off me again. I’m pulling stuff out of the cupboard I bought to fit into one day but now they are too loose. I even have to tie my shoes tighter..

This coming week I’m going to try my absolute hardest to lose (while eating sensibly) and TRY not to eat quite so many LORD WOOLTON PIES!

  1. I think you have added some muscle. As long as your clothes are getting loose I think you are doing great.

  2. That means you haven’t gained any weight during the time of month you could reasonably expect to add a pound or two.

  3. Carolyn, I am speaking from true experience when I say that the number on the scale absolutely does not matter. If you took my stats at face value, 5.4″, 185 pounds, you would picture a person who is much more unfit than I am. I ran my first 5K in 2009. I bike nearly everywhere I travel and have honkin’ leg muscles. Muscle definitely weighs more than fat, and even though I would like to loose some of my stubborn belly fat, it isn’t getting in the way of my leading a relatively healthy lifestyle. You are doing amazingly well, and no scale number is going to replace that feeling you get when you fit into something you thought you’d never fit into again. 🙂

    • You sound like you are strong and fit and that’s what I’m aiming for!!! Thank you for your encouragement xxxxxx

  4. Damned womanly curse? that means a couple of pounds of fluid retention! If you graph your weight, I’m willing to bet you a Lord Woolton Pie that you find a plateau or even a slight gain regularly every 4-5 weeks followed by a sharpish drop the following week. Next week will show a drop again! Besides, you’re steadily building muscle now and muscle is denser and therefore heavier than an equivalent volume of fat.

    • I think you are right- there was no reason I could think of that I shouldn’t have lost something this week- even with the pies!!! xxx

  5. I’m positive you will have a 4ib loss next week, the body retains fluid during the monthly cycle as Lili and Suzanne pointed out. Ha ha just realised that sounded like you’ve been doing a monthly bicycle ride! Keep going, oh and I have to say that gentle exercise during your period helps reduce the painful cramps plus helps expel the stuff needing to be expelled! I’m being coy as I know men read this too and I don’t wish to put them off their Lord Woolton pies… X

    • Hahahaha!!! I wouldn’t worry about squeamish men!! 🙂 I think you are right Louise- I watched what I ate this week and did a ton of aerobic exercise every day plus the 2 hr hike on saturday so here’s hoping the scales will be kind next wednesday 🙂 xxxxxxxxx

  6. We have to all that stuff on the blithering treadmill, because we have cars and wouldn’t walk any where otherwise. The trainer at my gym told me yesterday that I need to do less weights and more cardio, like 30 minutes more! Oh no! I’d rather go out with the dog. But we’ll see. I don’t do any running at all, so well done you for that minute at 6km/h.

Yesterday I started reading ‘Feeding the Nation’. It’s absolutely inspirational! I’m amazed at how right-on it is, and how modern the ideas seem. What went wrong after rationing ended, I keep asking myself.

  7. Carolyn, I have been looking back at your weight loss charts, you have done SO well – especially to keep the motivation going for such a long while. Keep on doing it! You are looking so healthy now in comparison to how you were less that an year ago.
