Weekly weigh-in and more about couch to 5k

Here is Laura- the voice inside my head 3 times a week.

Laura is the voice behind the NHS Couch to 5k program. She appears in a series of 9 weekly FREE downloadable podcasts to help you begin to exercise again, in a gradual, safe way. Regular cardio-vascular exercise (3 times a week), is an excellent way to strengthen your heart and in conjunction with a healthier diet, reduce the likelihood of coronary artery disease. Did anyone mention those AMAZING ENDORPHINS that kick in too? I NEVER knew you could actually become addicted to something healthy!!!

Weekly weigh-in

Damn and blast. Seeing no shift on the scale was NOT what I was expecting. I can only presume that I have eaten too much food this week despite all the exercise!! There is only one thing for it, back to writing EVERY SINGLE THING down that passes my lips!

As Laura would say on the podcasts

YOU CAN DO THIS!

  1. Hi Caroline Don’t get too despondent. You are exercising much more and building tone and muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat and this will impact on what you see on the scales. You are doing very well. What is happening about the book you were writing and when will it be available? Love Rosemary x

    • I’ll keep going!! I think I’ve been nibbling on quite a few things too (Ok they are healthy things but nevertheless all these things add up)… YES I’m now signed up with a literary agency and am working on putting together some sample chapters and a proposal which will be sent out to publishers via the agency, probably in a few months time. IF I’m lucky enough to get the book picked up by a publisher I think i would be a year or so before it came out…. I believe these things take time…

A food writer/photographer will be recreating my favourite recipes so we have beautiful photographs in the book as well as some nostalgia and a personal weight loss memoir with photos… 🙂

Big plans I know 🙂 LOL

  2. Hi Carolyn, you might find this interesting: http://www.pbrc.edu/research-and-faculty/calculators/weight-loss-predictor/

Weight loss slows down over time because every pound you lose lowers your basal metabolic rate a little as your body adapts to being lighter. Sometimes a plateau can be broken by eating MORE for a week or two! As others have mentioned, you’re probably shifting fat into muscle, so your waist is probably getting smaller even while your weight remains constant, and that’s all good. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/07/losing-the-last-10-pounds_n_1752918.html?utm_hp_ref=healthy-living

I like this site too: http://pinterest.com/stormmafia/real-bodies/

And I REALLY LIKE your site! I hang out here a lot although this is the first time I’ve commented.

    • Thanks Suzanne- I found this all really interesting and found some time to check out those links yesterday AND share that Pinterest page (that was awesome!!). Thanks for reading and thanks for commenting!!! C xxxxx

      • You’re welcome, Carolyn! I’m planning to do the ration diet too.

While I was futzing about on the internet, I came across these sites that are fun to play with; weightmirror.com and optitex.com. I haven’t done the weigh mirror yet, but I did create a virtual me on optitex, as I am now, and at my best weight. I pasted the images side-by-side. Quite amazing! I think the virtual me, as I am now, is a very accurate depiction of my body.

I made the oatmeal sausages for breakfast last week, and they were really really good. I used steelcut oats and soaked them overnight, so there’d be a little chewiness to the sausage.

  3. Congrats on the win and on your C25K goals and your attitude in general! You’ve really inspired me – I found the website originally when I was doing some WWII research for a novel, and I’ve decided I may have to try your diet, and get back on the running wagon again. Keep it up and thanks for keeping such an awesome and inspiring website!

    • Thank you Vanessa!! Good luck on that WWII novel- I looked on your website and see you write novels for younger people is that right? Thanks for your kind words C xxxxx

      • Thanks! That’s right. I write YA novels. Your website has really been a great place to find information and links. I’m trying to decide now when I’m going to try your ration diet. BTW – totally missed it before, but congrats on the literary agent, and I’ll look forward to seeing your book in stores!
