High Blood Pressure

So much has gone on especially in the last few weeks here at the Hobbit House….I can’t divulge fully due to privacy issues but it would be fair to say that we received terrible, terrible news that has turned our lives upside down. But we are the lucky ones…

One of my ways of coping with sadness is to over eat… some people shout and scream, some drink, others go quiet, I eat.

Previous to the news we received I was meandering, just the occasional 1940’s meal… for the last few weeks I have made sure that my days are filled with food… it kind of stops you crying and takes your mind off things temporarily.

I jumped on the weighing scales Friday night- the first time in several weeks and if memory serves me well my weight back then was around 285 lbs. I was horrified to see the needle move back up to 310 lbs.

Yesterday I popped into the pharmacy and had my blood pressure done. 176/88 …. NOT good news.

This was probably a combination of a recent bad diet and stress.

Needless to say I have jumped right back in and am trying my damned hardest to get back on track starting with a week of trying to cleanse my body of some of the toxins I have accumulated…..

Yesterday’s main meal was a huge salad sprinkled generously with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (an old fashioned cure for all)

I’ll keep you updated

  1. Carolyn, truly sorry to hear of your bad news and stress. My prayers are with you as you go through whatever you/yours are going through. I totally understand about the stress eating. I do it, too. My scales are up after my own health hullabaloo, and now I have to work on getting back some of the health I lost. Guess all we can do, really, is take it one day, one moment, at a time. Hang in there. Fruits and veges are wonderful for helping to combat the free radicals, etc. produced by stress.

  2. By the way, some of the weight you are experiencing may be due to stress related weight retention or, if you are sitting more due to traveling a lot or sitting at someone’s bedside, water retention from that as well.

  3. Thank you so much xx

As I said the Hobbits and I are the lucky ones …

My job is sat in front of computers and with all the extra comfort food over the past few weeks I think and hope that much of the weight gain is a temporary water imbalance- at least some of it will be.

Thank you for your thoughts xxxxx

  4. Hi Carolyn. I sit in front of a computer too, for work, and when I am stressed, I eat as well. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I drink about four big cups of Rooibos tea (and you can use the teabag twice – it’s that strong – how 1940s frugal is that?) daily. It’s fully of antioxidants, assists with mood swings, good for the heart, and a whole lots of other stuff. http://inhumanexperiment.blogspot.com/2010/04/many-health-benefits-of-rooibos-tea.html
Just take everything, one day at a time, and my thoughts are with you. Blessings, Bev
